When my mum told me she would be inviting the whole family to her house for dinner to celebrate her birthday and the newly-built wine cellar in their house, I decided I would make the night extra special by ‘styling’ the dinner table.
Like many things, my vision was slightly more impressive than the actual result – but that’s ok because everyone adored it and I thought it looked lovely too. If anything, it’s a good lesson for next time to plan further ahead and do a practice run!
I didn’t take as many photos as I should have but I was very rushed and only had about an hour to lay the table!
I made the menus using InDesign and printing them on cream card stock. I then tied a cream ribbon around the card, with a navy ribbon hanging from the bow. I made the table runners in about 10 minutes with a few metres of fabric and a sewing machine – this is one of the things I should have spent a bit more time on as they looked a bit messy, but still worth the effort as they added a nice colour to the table.
I bought a few of the vases from the $2 shop, and others from mum’s collection. I bought a selection of white and cream flowers from the florist, as well as white roses and kale flowers. I really loved looking at the flower arrangements all night – they added such a nice classy touch to the table and smelt beautiful! You can just see the kids’ table setting in the bottom left corner – we have four kids in the family aged 3-6. I decorated their table with mason jars with straws in the lid, activity books, and a specially designed ‘kids menu’. They loved how fancy it all was!
I can’t wait for the next party so I can have another go!
