Places I liked

Little Bird, Ponsonby (source)

Little Bird Organics have certainly made their mark on Auckland since arriving in Kingsland a few years ago, followed closely by another location – Little Bird Unbakery in Ponsonby. The food is all high-quality, organic, raw, and healthy – and above all, delicious! I’ve been several times to sample unbaked goods from the cabinet or have a mid-afternoon smoothie, but this was my first time ordering off the breakfast menu.

The drinks options are particularly impressive – a wide range of smoothies and juices, but also nut milks, teas, cold brew coffee and more. I had a matcha latte with macadamia milk, and it was delicious and exactly how I expected it to be – it took me back to late summer Whistler afternoons at the lake with matcha lattes and good friends.

For breakfast I ordered the acai bowl, which is described as – The Acai Bowl is a delicious antioxidant rich breakfast. A blended bowl of fresh acai berries, organic berries and banana topped with grawnola & coconut yoghurt. (Its like a super-smoothie breakfast in a bowl with extras!)

It was amazing – tarty and fresh and fruity. My friend had the Portobello Benedict (Our house-made raw bagel topped with a bed of spinach, marinated portobello mushrooms, topped with special hollandaise sauce.) which looked interesting and nourishing.

The interior is clean, modern, and filled with vibrant accents. The staff are friendly and attentive. And their passionfruit macaroons are an excellently sweet way to finish off a delicious breakfast and a lovely start to the day.
